Turgutreis

The beaches that enjoy a late sunset...
The Turkish traveller Eviiya Qelebi writes about the Ottoman Admiral Turgut Reis (1485-1565) renowned as "Dragut" in the Western World, saying, 'Turgut, the shepherd,  a tall strapping young man joined the navy as a sailor to become the great admiral of his time. He was from the Mentese principality born in the village of Karabag, later to be named after him."
An 18 kilometre fast modern road leads to Turgutreis, a resort at the far end of the Peninsula, with its beaches extending for about 1.5 kilometres and in sight of numerous small islands (particularly Qatal Island). This self sufficient municipality offers every comfort you need with hotels and motels scattered among tangerine orchards. The town lies between Gumu§luk and Ortakent with smaller villages encircling it.
The island Yassiada,  just west of Turgutreis,  is the place where underwater archeological excavations are performed.
The first excavations around this island in 1961 are considered to be the beginning of underwater archaeology of the world. As the finds of "Amphorae" of these excavations and further archaeological gems accumulated, the Museum of Underwater Archaeology in Bodrum was established, and grew with the years to be the world's largest museum of underwater archaeology.
It is planned to establish later on in this area an archaeological underwater park. One of the most modern and best equipped yachting ports within the Mediterranean area is in Turgutreis. From the initial opening in 2003 the D Marina achieved much admiration in maritime circles. The Marina has a capacity of 500 yachts and is open throughout the year.
With a modern shopping centre, botanic garden, cafes and other services increase its fame, Turgutreis is becoming more well known. The town of Turgutreis is developing from day to day. Large supermarkets and larger shops are on the increase. With well planted parks, a port, cobblestone paved roads, green zones, local weekly markets, a broad beach and modern accommodation possibilities, the town is in a position to fill every requirement.
The park "Sevket Sabanci Parki" is like a gift for the town. The monumental portals, palm tree avenues, pools, the gardens of 1001 flowers, cafe and restaurant, a theatre and concert area and the monument make this paradise worth a visit. Swimming in the sea of Karaincir must definitely be on your list. Here you will find one of the most beautiful beaches of the area. A wealth of cactus here is immediately noticeable. You can enjoy your lunch in small beach restaurants.
"Bagla" is directly at the foot of the mountain "Aspaf". Its extremely clean and the clear water is impressive.lf you want to visit Bagla, do not forget to take your diving goggles and swimming fins with you.
Not only by day, but also at night Turgutreis should be experienced.   Cafes, clubs and discos for young people are alive through the night. Whoever looks for pleasure can be entertained here in the rhythm of the music, new friendships can be found.  Some hotels organize fixed evenings of a different kind, not only for hotel guests. Professional dance shows of all kinds encourage you to join in.
